The building on this property was dedicated in 1903 as the Ellsworth Congregational Church.
In 1912 the congregations of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Congregational Church began meeting together
with the name of the Union Church.   The Congregational Church building was used for Sunday meetings and weddings
while the Methodist Episcopal Church building was used for suppers and Ladies Aid meetings
until 1923 when a basement was dug for the Congregational Church building.

The basement now offered the Union Church the needed space for dinners and informal meetings,
so the Methodist Episcopal Church building was no longer needed.
It was sold and moved five miles southeast of Ellsworth and renamed and used as the Bethany Lutheran Church.

In 1948 the Methodist members took over the Congregational congregation's debt and paid off the mortgage.
This building then was no longer the Union Church, but the Ellsworth Methodist Church.
The church finally closed in 2023, and was removed in 2025.

There are always continual changes in Ellsworth and the rest of the world.
This next photo was also seen on Page D, showing the early days of Ellsworth.

This photo, an aerial photo taken taken by Peter Holt from the belfry of the Lutheran Church in 1904, is now missing three buildings of this neighborhood.   The Methodist Episcopal Church seen at left was moved to another location in 1920, the house at center with an address of 1531 Dayton was lost to fire in 2022, and the Methodist church, the former Congregational Church building, was removed in 2025.
